Beyond Limits: The Natalie Peacock Triathlon Adventure
Meet Natalie Peacock, currently residing in Waipukurau, Central Hawkes Bay, New Zealand, with her husband Kendall and their Weimaraner, Storm. By day, she works as the Anaesthetic Team Leader at Royston Hospital in Hastings, a journey that involves a daily one-hour commute. However, it's her passion for triathlon that truly defines her and why she was selected to be a Purpose Ambassador in 2024. Find out more about her triathlon journey and what she hopes to achieve in this interview.
A Humble Beginning in Triathlon
In 2010, Nat took on a dare to compete in the Port of Tauranga Half Ironman distance, setting a target time of 6 hours. With nine months of basic training, she not only met but exceeded her goal, finishing comfortably in 6 hours and 6 minutes. That marked the beginning of her love affair with triathlons, fueled by the excitement of a sport that brings together individuals from all walks of life, each with their unique stories and inspirations.
Fueling the Triathlon Passion
Over the past 12 years, Nat has completed four 70.3 distance events, numerous half marathons, and local running events. One of her proudest moments was completing the Hawkes Bay half marathon this year in 1 hour and 40 minutes, inching close to her personal best of 1 hour and 37 minutes set when she was 22. Her sights are now set on the New Zealand 70.3 in March, where she aims to secure a ticket to the 70.3 World Champs and fulfill a long-cherished dream.
Triathlon Triumphs and Challenges
Nat’s journey has not been without challenges. Battling bipolar depression since her early 20s, coupled with the impact of living with a narcissist and undergoing back surgery in 2014, posed significant obstacles. Meeting her husband, Kendall, in 2016 marked a turning point. Together, they worked towards her 70.3 dream, overcoming hurdles, and achieving milestones, including fitting into a new wetsuit.
Nat’s Commitment to Purpose
Introduced to Purpose Performance Wear through her coach, Matt Kerr, she was drawn not just to the clothing but to the powerful message it carried. The Purpose Community, embodying support and motivation, resonated deeply with her. As a Purpose Ambassador, she aspires to break down barriers and inspire others to pursue their passions.
Words of Wisdom for Newbies
For those venturing into endurance sports, Nat emphasizes the importance of small steps and consistency. "Be better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow" and "KEEP GOING" are mantras that have guided her journey.
While she may not be the fastest or the youngest athlete, she strives to be the best version of herself every day. If her journey encourages even one person to say, "If she can do it, so can I," then she considers her role as a Purpose Ambassador a success.
Beyond Triathlon
While her focus is currently on the 70.3, she harbors aspirations of completing a full Ironman when she turns 50. The allure of Kona might beckon, hinting at new challenges and goals beyond the immediate horizon.
