Meet Self-Coached Pro Triathlete Aichlinn O'Reilly

Introducing Aichlinn O'Reilly, a remarkable fully self-coached triathlete whose journey from washing windows in Ireland, to conquering triathlon circuits is nothing short of extraordinary. Aichlinn, who also holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Sports and Exercise Science, is in relentless pursuit of his athletic dreams and illuminates the path for others to follow. Join him as he proves that resilience and passion know no boundaries

Diving into Triathlon: How it all began

Aichlinn's journey into triathlon began at the age of 15, but it wasn't until he turned 17 that he dove into the sport wholeheartedly. "I was instantly hooked and managed to get selected for the Irish Junior High Performance Squad fairly quickly," he recalls.

Over the years, Aichlinn has completed dozens of Sprint, Olympic, and middle-distance races, along with two full-distance races. His notable achievements include winning the Irish Long Course Title at The Hardman and placing 6th overall in his first Pro Ironman race in Ironman Western Australia, where he broke the 8-hour mark.

"Triathlon to me is so many things. It's the chance to test your limits and find out what you're truly capable of. It's friends made for life, going for a coffee ride, helping each other push yourself to your limits."

Overcoming Hurdles in his Triathlon Quest

Despite his success, Aichlinn has faced numerous challenges along the way. "The biggest challenge is financial," he admits. "I'm not making a full-time living from triathlon, so I work hard, save as much as I can, and then focus fully on a race."

Recently Aichlinn also incurred an injury which forced him to miss Ironman Cairns. It was a huge blow especially after all the hard work he put into it but his decision to prioritize a full recovery and reset shows his incredible strength and passion.

But through it all, Aichlinn has been buoyed by the unwavering support of his family, friends, and girlfriend. "Their support means everything to me," he says. "It's what keeps me going, even in the toughest times."

Sure enough after a couple months of rest and rehabilitation Aichlinn is now back in training mode preparing for the World Triathlon Long Course champs at the end of August, and later potentially a 70.3 Ironman in Southeast Asia.

A Journey Fueled by Endurance and Passion

Aside from the finish line triumphs, Aichinn’s biggest goal is to show how amazing triathlon is to as many people as possible. “I would love to show young athletes who are already showing potential that you don’t need to be successful straight away. So many of the top stars in triathlon break through when they are very young and I want to be an example of someone who just kept plugging away and slowly found success in the sport at an older age,” said Aichlinn.

He also hopes to inspire others to lace up their shoes and hit the pavement. "It's easier than you realize," he assures newcomers. "With the right attitude, you can achieve your goals, no matter where you come from or what obstacles you face. Everyone has different goals and different routes to achieving them but what matters is that you do not worry about what anyone else does."

As a Purpose athlete, Aichlinn also resonates deeply with the brand's ethos of inclusivity and innovation. "Purpose is more than just a brand to me," he explains. "They support triathlon in communities where it might not be popular, and their commitment to inclusivity is something I deeply admire."

Beyond the Finish Line

Outside the realm of triathlon, Aichlinn is a man of many interests. From online chess battles to scaling mountains over multi day expeditions, his pursuits reflect a zest for life that's as infectious as it is inspiring. "I believe in a holistic approach to life," he muses. "Triathlon is a part of me, but it doesn't define me entirely and I enjoy hanging out with friends and having a beer and a laugh."

In a world where success is often measured in medals and trophies, Aichlinn O'Reilly reminds us that the true essence of triumph lies in the journey itself.
