From Smoker to Top Triathlete: Jenni's Endurance Journey

Jenni Paglia, a 38-year-old Italian residing in the picturesque town of St. Moritz, Switzerland, has not only embraced the alpine beauty surrounding her but has also carved a remarkable path in the world of triathlon. Working a full-time job as a secretary in the building authority department of the St. Moritz City Council, Jenni has successfully balanced her professional commitments with a passion she found for endurance sports.

A Humble Beginning into the World of Triathlon

Jenni's journey into the world of triathlon began in 2015, thanks to a friend who registered her for her first sprint triathlon. Little did she know that this seemingly casual introduction would spark a deep love for outdoor activities and a commitment to a healthier lifestyle. For Jenni, triathlon is not just about the physical challenge but also about showcasing the power of dedication and perseverance.

Fueling the Passion for Endurance Sport

Her dedication is evident not only in the numerous races she has completed but also in the lifestyle changes she adopted. Quitting smoking in 2018 and transitioning to a vegan diet in late 2019, Jenni has been on a journey to discover the best version of herself.

With approximately 15 Half Ironman races, including three World Championships, and six full Ironman races, two of which were in Kona, Jenni's racing resume is impressive. Her achievements, however, go beyond podium finishes. Having to race sick in Kona and endure the toughest Ironman of her career is something she is proud of. She finished the race, proving to herself that setbacks don't define her as an athlete.

Looking ahead, Jenni's sights are set on the Ironman World Championship in September.

Triathlon Triumphs and Challenges

Like any athlete, Jenni has faced her share of challenges, including a hip impingement surgery in 2019 and a disc prolapse last year. Juggling a demanding job, training, and recovery, she emphasizes the importance of adapting training during injuries. With the support of her coaching team at Trisutto, she says she has maintained a positive mindset, focusing on what she can do rather than what she can't.

As a Purpose athlete Jenni aims to break cultural and faith barriers, highlighting that endurance sports are inclusive and meant for everyone. Through her role, she hopes to inspire others to embrace a healthy and active lifestyle.

Beyond Triathlon

Outside of triathlon, Jenni cherishes moments with her family, especially her niece and nephew. Her bucket list includes spending European winters in Australia or Asia to train, and race, and celebrating multiple New Year’s by flying into different time zones.

Jenni's story is one of transformation and the endless possibilities that come with embracing change. From a smoker with little regard for nutrition to an age-group podium finisher at European Championship races and Ironman races, she demonstrates that it's never too late to try new things and embrace new exciting paths.
