From a Casual Runner to Now a Seasoned Triathlete

Meet Oswald Wong, or as his pals call him, Os or Ozzy. Hailing from sunny Singapore, Oswald considers himself a regular guy who stumbled upon the world of triathlon and fell in love with the challenge.

It all started back in 2018 when Oswald decided to shake things up a bit from his regular running routine. That year, he dived headfirst into the world of triathlon taking part in swims with friends at Tanjong Beach in Sentosa and longer rides and runs. What kept him coming back? Well, it wasn't just the swim-bike-run routine; or the fact that it makes him a more humble person, it was the sense of community. Triathletes, he says, are some of the friendliest folks around, always ready with a high-five or a word of encouragement.

“Endurance sport is special, it builds endurance and determination and helps oneself to find their strength and know their weaknesses. It makes you humble,” said Oswald

A Seasoned Competitor and Balancing it All

As the years went by, Os went from casual racer to seasoned competitor. From local events like Tri Factor and MetaSprint to tackling Ironman races around the globe, Oswald has  done it all. And with five Ironman races, three 70.3 events, and a World Championship in Nice, France under his belt, it's safe to say he's no slouch.

But it hasn't all been smooth sailing. Balancing training with a full-time job and family commitments is  no easy feat. But Oswald takes it all in his stride, squeezing in workouts whenever he can and making sure to take care of himself along the way.

“I always need to find time during weekdays to insert 1 hour training,  and I’m conscious of balancing my rest and family time. I’m grateful that my family is supportive of this leisure sport that I am in and I just do what I can and don't pressurize myself. I always listen to my body to avoid injury and stay sane,” shared Oswald.

A Commitment to Purpose

Oswald has been rocking Purpose tri suits for some time now, and in his own words he says, “they're the real deal – comfy, durable, and best of all, made right here in Singapore”.

Oswald is all about spreading the word and cheering on his fellow athletes. ''Purpose is a local brand and I want to support this and give more awareness to the community'', said Oswald.

But it's not just about the gear for Oswald – once again, it's about the people. He's passionate about sharing his story and inspiring others to take the plunge into endurance sports because as he says, “we're all newbies at some point! It's all about learning, growing, and supporting each other along the way.”

Beyond Triathlon

Outside of triathlon Oswald says, ''I read and travel and enjoy connecting with people.''. When he's not out crushing triathlons you can find him kicking back with a good book or jetting off on his next adventure.
