PE Teacher & National Triathlete. Meet Man Yun
Meet Man Yun, a dedicated Physical Education teacher from Singapore who has taken her passion for sports beyond the classroom. Born and raised in the Lion City, she works full-time at a local Junior College, inspiring the next generation while pursuing her own athletic dreams.
How Her Triathlon Journey Began
Man Yun's love affair with sports began early. "I started running in 2013 and cycled leisurely," she recalls. "In 2019, I took on duathlons, and by 2022, I learned to swim and ventured into triathlons." Her sporting journey has been diverse, spanning netball, bowling, fencing, and frisbee before settling into multisport events.
For Man Yun, sports are more than just activities—they're a way of life. "Sports keep me sane, help me discover myself, and push me to be better."
Racing and Achievements
With numerous multisport events under her belt, including triathlons and duathlons ranging from sprint distances to the grueling 70.3 Ironman, Man Yun's biggest highlight came when she represented Singapore in the SEA Games Duathlon in 2021 and 2023.
"Being part of Team Singapore is my proudest achievement," she shares. Up next is the World Triathlon Multisport World Championships in Townsville this August, where she'll compete in the Sprint Duathlon.
Overcoming Triathlon Challenges
The journey hasn't been without its hurdles. "The pressure to perform and coping when things don't go as planned are significant challenges," Man Yun admits. Her strategy? Honesty, emotional authenticity, and a clear, logical plan.
"Surrounding myself with positive and supportive loved ones, friends, and sponsors is crucial. They're core to my journey in life and sports."
A Commitment to Purpose
Man Yun's motivation to become a Purpose athlete stems from her alignment with the brand's vision. "Purpose’s dedication to building the sport and supporting triathletes resonates with me," she explains.
Her message to those considering endurance sports is simple yet powerful: "It's never too late to start!"
As a Purpose athlete Man Yun aims to shift the focus from mere performance to personal growth. "We should focus on our growth, not just our results."
Life Beyond Endurance Sport
When she's not training or teaching, Man Yun loves escaping the hustle and bustle of the city. "I enjoy being out in nature, away from the crowds, and taking things slow."
As for other aspects of her life? Man Yun leaves it intriguingly open: "Nope, for y’all to find out!"
