Fast Meets Cool: Triathlon Icon Joe Skipper Finds Purpose

In the world of triathlon, where every second counts, Joe Skipper emerges not only as a force to be reckoned with but as a maverick rewriting the script for excellence. Born from a daring challenge—a half Ironman at the end of 2010—Joe's journey has been a relentless pursuit of speed, resilience, and the thrill of competition. Yet, it was that specific sub-7 hour Ironman moment in 2022 that catapulted Joe into the limelight, forever etching his name in the annals of Ironman history.

Chasing Cool in Hot Pursuit

Born on March 25, 1988, Joe Skipper’s journey into triathlon began with a daring challenge—a half Ironman at the close of 2010. Armed with a love for cycling and an appetite for challenge, Joe entered the world of swimming and running, finding himself hooked on the intensity of triathlon racing.

His journey, however, wasn't without its hurdles. "I wasn't a swimmer or a runner initially. I was cycling and wanted a challenge, so I entered a half Ironman," recalls Joe. "Training with the Manchester Tri Club opened up a new world for me. I loved the camaraderie and the challenge of keeping up with seasoned athletes."

"It was during my first half Ironman in 2010. The thrill of the race, the camaraderie with fellow athletes—it was addictive. I knew then that triathlon wasn't just a challenge; it was my passion."

The big turning point came in 2015 when Joe held the third-fastest Ironman bike split globally and stood as the fastest British male Ironman to date. This accomplishment was more than mere statistics; it represented the relentless spirit of a young athlete who was transforming from a novice to a powerhouse.

"Winning the bronze at the ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Championships in 2015 was a game-changer for me. It showed me that with dedication and perseverance, I could compete at the highest level."

Sub-7 Hour Ironman Glory

Fast forward to 2022, Joe Skipper etched his name in the Ironman history books, becoming one of the select few athletes to finish a full Ironman distance in less than seven hours and the fastest Brit to ever complete Kona. With only days' notice, Joe achieved the extraordinary, crossing the finish line in an astonishing 6:47:36, with an incredibly fast bike split (possibly the fastest 180km ever ridden). This achievement was a true testament to both Joe’s skill but also his unparalleled tenacity in the sport.

"It was an unexpected challenge, but I thrive on pushing boundaries. Finishing a full Ironman distance in sub-7 hours was a surreal moment, a culmination of years of dedication and relentless training."

Fast Meets Cool: A Purposeful Partnership

Fast forward again to today, and Joe Skipper embarks on a new chapter with Purpose. The synergy between Joe's racing style and the commitment Purpose has to excellence in apparel creates an unstoppable force.

“This partnership is about more than just racing fast; it's about making waves in the global triathlon community. Both Joe and Purpose are in pursuit of excellence”, said CEO Cyril Bedat.

But, beyond engineering gear for brutal conditions, this game plan for Purpose extends beyond creating cutting-edge products. This partnership also aims to further empower underserved communities globally. It's about engineering gear that laughs in the face of the brutal heat and humidity and championing the needs of diverse sporting communities worldwide. Purpose is not just about apparel; we want to spearhead a movement for true diversity in sports.

“The world of endurance sports is as diverse as it gets, and our mission isn't just about helping athletes reach the finish line; it's about making sure everyone gets to join the race,” said Founder and CPO, Noor Aziz.

As Joe Skipper and Purpose join forces to set the bar for excellence in endurance apparel, Purpose hopes to rewrite the script for a more inclusive triathlon world.
