Meet Nick: A Pro Triathlete Taking the World by Storm
Triathlon: the love for the sport
At the tender age of 17, Nick made the bold decision to transition from a promising swimming career to the multifaceted challenges of triathlon. It was a natural progression for him, considering his father's background as a former professional triathlete. Since then, there has been no looking back.
With far too many races under his belt too numerous to tally, Nick reminisces fondly about a pivotal moment in Swakopmund, Namibia. It was there that he clinched qualification for his first Commonwealth Games while juggling the demands of a full-time accounting job. This achievement not only marked a personal triumph but also catalyzed his decision to turn professional.
So what fuels Nick's love for triathlon? For him, it's a blend of two factors: the vibrant lifestyle it fosters and the insatiable drive for self-improvement. While he savors every aspect of the sport, his swimming background gives the swim leg a slight edge in his affections.
However, Nick's journey hasn't been without its share of challenges. A harrowing moment in Mauritius, where he collapsed during a race, led to the discovery of underlying heart complications—a setback that only strengthened his resolve to overcome adversity. On the flip side, nothing beats the euphoria of any race where he gets to race in front of family and friends, always a cherished memory for Nick.
Finding Motivation and Race day Rituals
When it comes to motivation, Nick scoffs at the notion, relying instead on the cultivation of healthy habits and the rhythmic beats of country music to keep him going. His advice to aspiring triathletes? Embrace the transformative power of the sport—it's more than just a race; it's a way of life.
In the lead-up to race days, Nick admits he adheres to a series of superstitious rituals, the details of which he feels would be “too weird to even explain.”
When asked if he had any advice for newbie triathletes Nick said this, “That the sport has the ability to change anyone’s life. It can teach you lessons about your real self that few life experiences can ever do. It is more than simply a sport; it will become a lifestyle.”
Outside of Triathlon
Outside of triathlon, Nick's bucket list is as diverse as it is ambitious. From conquering the Abbott Major Marathons to reeling in salmon in Alaska and witnessing Manchester United in action at Old Trafford, his thirst for adventure knows no bounds.
When asked about a dream relay teammate, Nick isn't swooning over fellow triathletes, opting instead for a celebrity partner of country music sensation, Morgan Wallen. And if he were to step into the world of cartoons, Nick sees himself as Luigi from Mario Kart—an emblem of his competitive spirit and penchant for victory.
For Nicholas Quenet, the journey is far from over. He continues to leave an indelible mark on the world of triathlon, embodying the spirit of resilience, passion, and determination. Watch this space—there's no telling where his boundless energy and enthusiasm will take him next.
