Triathlete Triumph: Andrew Choa's Ironman Pursuit

Meet Andrew Choa who is a proud Malaysian hailing from the vibrant city of Ipoh, Perak. Currently residing and working in Kuala Lumpur, Andrew is a passionate age group triathlete and a beacon of positivity and humor for all those around him. As a Purpose ambassador in Malaysia for 2024, we caught up with him to find out more about his journey.

A Dare Turned into an Ironman Dream 

Andrew's journey into the world of endurance sports began around 2010 when he decided to take running seriously. Gradually, he delved into cycling and eventually embraced the challenge of triathlon and duathlon. What started as a fitness regimen soon transformed into something more profound—it became Andrew's therapy, his escape, and his sanctuary for self-reflection. “It's not just about the physical challenge; it's about the mental resilience and the camaraderie I get to share  with like-minded individuals,” said Andrew.

Fueling the Passion

Andrew has participated in many races over the years, spanning various disciplines from triathlon to ultra-distance events. While he admits losing count of his races, each event holds its own significance as a stepping stone in his journey of self-improvement. 

Among his many achievements, Ironman Langkawi 2023 stands out as a particularly poignant moment—a lifelong dream turned into reality after nearly a decade of dedication and perseverance. And true to his adventurous spirit, Andrew's next big race is none other than Ironman Langkawi 2024, proving that once is never enough for an Ironman aficionado.

Triathlon Triumphs and Challenges

The road to Ironman glory is fraught with challenges, from grueling training regimes to personal sacrifices. However, for Andrew, the investment—both in terms of time and resources—is undeniably worthwhile. “It's not just about physical health but also mental well-being and the priceless friendships forged along the way.,  And besides, I would rather be spending money on this rather than drugs."
