Since 2017, standing on the shoulders of giants – Purpose Performance Wear

Since 2017, PURPOSE PERFORMANCE WEAR’s achievements were not that it was the first brand from Singapore, maybe even Southeast Asia, to launch high-performance technical apparels triathlon, running, and cycling space.

But that it achieved so many accolades within a few short years. Still, with a small yet growing audience, PURPOSE has accomplished so much year on year that it’s a wonder what else it can do with a large user base.

Purpose Performance Wear launched with cycling jerseys and bib shorts in 2017. That year, the team of privately-funded cyclists from Team Australia II won runner-up at the Race Across America.

In 2018 – just one year old, PURPOSE introduced triathlon suits with Hypermesh PRO. In October that year, the PURPOSE Pro Tri Suit debuted at the Ironman World Championship in Kona.

Worn by Dr Dan Plews, he became world champion in the age-group category with the course’s fastest time for an age-grouper. Until today, Dr Plews continues to wear PURPOSE.

2020, just before the pandemic, the PURPOSE Running Series were released. Breaking boundaries – the first of any sportswear brand from Singapore or Southeast Asia, in its use of the advanced Hypermesh PRO and ELITE fabric tech, the kits are on par with any of the top running apparel in the world.

In May 2020, Zach Bitter wore PURPOSE to his two indoor treadmill world records. What’s incredible was that in the 12 hours he ran, he needed only one set of kits.

Two years passed, and things paused. This time now, we hope to be coming back stronger. Already in May 2022, New Zealander Matt Kerr won the Ironman World Championship in Utah and on the back of this, he will be mounting a challenge to be the 2022 Ironman Age-Group World Champion in PURPOSE. And so will many others who have qualified for the Ironman World Championships wearing PURPOSE.

The achievements of 2017, 2018, 2019 & 2020 are testaments that a young upstart brand, still a seedling in the scale of things, can punch up along with the heavyweights. Yet, we stand on the shoulders of these giants – athletes who chose to put their faith into an unknown brand to deliver their top levels.

Then again, this is how all the great sportswear brands start. Giants all of them that one day PURPOSE hopes to be.

The singlet was perfect. Fitting was amazing.

Closer to home, the PURPOSE Running kit got its first real test or racing in the heat and humidity. At the Maybank Marathon in Bali, Indonesia, the PRO Running singlet broke every doubter’s doubt that the kit can deliver the high standards in a premiere running event when Olympian and Indonesia’s top triathlete won his race in 2hr 51mins. In wet, humid, and hilly racing conditions too, as well.

All these achievements are evidence of how far PURPOSE has come in just five short years – three years if the pandemic years are not taken into account. Not bad for a seedling still finding a space in the land of giants.
