Pete Farnsworth: Purpose-built for this climate

Pete Farnsworth started out as an avid cyclist, mostly doing mountain biking on the trails. His first brush with triathlon was when he did the bike leg for a team relay at a triathlon race in Singapore.

About the same time, his son was born and he had less time to travel for his mountain biking adventures. Thus, he started doing more runs and road rides, which quickly morphed into an addiction for triathlon.

“I started taking it more seriously and then signed up with COS Coaching to learn how to train properly,” the 42-year-old regional director of customer experience intelligence company Calabrio said.

As meticulous and strategic as his job encompasses, Pete loves getting creative so he decided to design his own trisuit.

“I’ve always been interested in design, specifically in colour and how certain colour palettes work,” he beamed. “For this design I was thinking of burnt orange and turquoise.

I actually used a colour matching website to get the exact palette right; just a shade out and it doesn’t work.”

He chose to make his custom trisuit with PURPOSE after many triathletes wearing our suits at a local race caught his eye.

“I really liked some of the designs, so I searched for PURPOSE on the internet when I got home and was surprised to find that you guys are a Singaporean brand. I got in contact immediately!” he recalled.

“When I got in touch, I was really pleased that I could do a full custom kit for the similar price as an off-the-peg suit, with really high quality and loads of technical features. 

I’m also a big fan of support local businesses, especially if they are up and coming brands. I also love Noor’s energy, he’s a great guy!”

Unfortunately, Pete has only managed to use his suit once at the Singapore International Triathlon last year. He was planning to do his first Ironman 70.3 this year, but due to COVID-19, many races have been cancelled.

Even so, he stills uses his trisuit to train. “The suit is really cool to ride and run in, as it is purpose-built for this climate. I’ve always ended up getting overheated in suits from other brands!”
